Series

The work comes in series. Painting in groups is how the practice moves: a body of work opens a space, and the pieces inside it speak to one another.

The Tell

The trait you were teased for as a child – the too-much, the wrong-shaped, the thing you were told to tone down – has a way of becoming, years later, the very thing that marks you. This series is made of those traits, each worn now without apology. It's the first body of work painted from ease rather than from weather: the line moves fast, the colour finally warms, and the lightness isn't the subject so much as the condition it was all made in.

The Spine

A series about inner strength that has nothing to prove. These women are tender and unyielding at the same time, and the work doesn't try to resolve that into one or the other. The softness is part of the strength, not the opposite of it.

Just Being

This series comes from a closed period – a stretch when nothing in my life would take hold and there was almost no one around. With everything else out of reach, what remained was the bare fact of existing, and I drew from there. The materials are deliberately dry and hard – ink and pen, not the warmth of oil – because the state had no softness in it. Different ways of holding the same condition: a self with nothing left around it but itself.
