Simu
In Simu, the Buddhist parable painted on Korean temple walls, the search for the ox leads to taming it and riding it home. But this progression breaks down if there is no safe place to return to in the first place. When your origins make you a stranger everywhere, home cannot be found on a map – it has to be built from what cannot be taken away.
At this point, the defense you have built shifts its purpose. The beast, once assembled from anxiety and the need for control, stops being a rigid shell and becomes the very ground beneath your feet. Tamed otherness turns into the only reliable anchor, a foundation where what is alive and vulnerable is finally safe to simply be.
